Edit: I have finally submitted the module to Drupal.org. For more information, read my latest blog post or head to the modules project page.

About three months ago I had this great idea, wouldn't it be fantastic if you could use @username style formatting on Drupal.org to notify other users of comments/issues that may be of interest to them, like on Twitter, surely a module like that wouldn't be too hard, right? I started work on it and got must of it nutted out quite quickly, but then I ran into two issues that I thought would be deal breakers, so I shelved the idea.

Last week I decided to have a look at it again and it turned out that the two issues I had run into where really quite minor and easy to overcome, so I knuckled down and got the module up and running and released the first development release.

Browsing through the Drupal.org support forums the other day, I came across an interesting support request, something that I just had to see if I could solve, maybe a niche issue, but something that really appealed to me.

The user was wanting to know if they could have files uploaded to specific directories based on the taxonomy term chosen, but not specifically in the same structure of the taxonomy tree or with the values of the taxonomy terms.

For example:

  • Term 'A' uploads files to directory 'X'.
  • Term 'B' uploads files to directory 'X/Y'.
  • Term 'C' uploads files to directory 'G/X'.
  • Term 'D' uploads files to directory 'P'.

As my experience with Drupal has shown, nothing is impossible, everything is achievable. And I knew with a little elbow grease this should be achievable with my FileField Paths module.

FileField Paths has just hit version 1.3.

The biggest change in this latest version is an improved modular system allowing for better integration options, demonstrated with support for two new modules, the Image module and the Comment Upload module.

Other changes include improved support for the ImageField Crop module, Dutch and Danish translations and various bug fixes.

It's been a while since I've put together a guide on the usage of Textimage, but with version 2.2 right around the corner it seems like the time is right, plus it makes for a great way to test a module.

In this guide I will show you how to use Textimage for your primary links menu.
