Windows Home Server CTP
I got a nice surprise when I checked my email, it looks like the Windows Home Server Team have released the latest version; Windows Home Server CTP.
I've been using Windows Home Server (WHS) Beta 2 for a few months now and I can definitely say that it is up there with Windows Media Center Edition as one the top OS variants from Microsoft.
The primary function of a WHS machine is to make daily backups of all machines on your network, which for someone like me who has previously lost large amounts of data is a must. And as it is an "Always On" machine it is great as an entertainment sharing hub, making your music, videos, pictures and anything else you can think of available to all your machines all the time.
The only other thing I required of an "Always On" machine was my BitTorrent downloads, but with a bit of ingenuity and research I managed to install uTorrent as a service on my WHS Beta 2 box and access it via the uTorrent webserver. I've been meaning to right up a tutorial on how to do this for a while now and as I'll now need to re-install it it will be the best time.
As soon as the download of WHS CTP is completed I will be straight into the task of the WHS upgrade and I will be sure to blog anything of interest.
Update: My guide to installing uTorrent as a service on WHS CTP can be found here.

And OH.. What a wonderful world it would've been if WHS came with MCE2005... So I could stream all my downloaded content to my Xbox360 with Transcode 360... But NO - Microsoft won't do that for me..
